OUR LIBRARY
The State Central Library West Bengal, under the Library Ministry of the Govt of WB, Kolkata originally functioned as a Central Reference Library in the Campus of the Rabindra Bharati University, B T Road, Kolkata. In 1996 it shifted to its new building at P-1-17, CIT Sch VIIM, VIP Road, Opp ESI Hospital, Kankurgachi, Kolkata 700054.
Who are we?

Society for the Visually Handicapped (SVH) is a registered non-Government voluntary Education Resource Body for empowerment of Persons with Low vision, Vision Impairment of total Blindness. SVH was founded in 1983 with the mission of Reaching Education to Sightless Citizens. Why is SVH Special This remains the only organization in the country which delivers free of charge Braille, Talking Book and career of higher education-related information service within a mainstream Library set up of the Govt. of West Bengal.

Our Mission

Each and every child with Vision Impairment must possess a Braille book, a Braille writing Kit, an abacus and an audio Ball while attending his/her nearest primary school classroom with his/her sighted peer under Equal Opportunity Inclusion set up

Each and every adult losing vision due to incurable genetic diseases or accidents or surgical failures must be motivated to learn Braille to be literate again

Print and publish as many Braille books as possible and on as variety of subjects as possible to encourage a Braille reader to be more informed about the world he/she lives in

Our Vision

Our organization was founded in 1983 with the aim of "REACHING EDUCATION TO SIGHTLESS CITIZENS". Stepping into the thirty-sixth year this February [2019], we still prioritize this as our foremost task ahead. Over the years "Braille Literacy for the Print-disabled" remains another priority.

Approach to serving a Person with Disability in general and one with Vision Impairment in particular, must comprise treating them with dignity, on Equal Rights & Equal Opportunity basis
